Why should we have family portraits taken?
The answer is simple: Portraits capture a glimpse of a moment in time in your families lives that will never be the same. Portraits remind us to remember moments with our families- the emotion and feelings of that day and that year are brought back by looking at your images and reminiscing.
As a child, my sister, brothers and I always dragged out my Mom’s photo albums and poured through them. Now, when we get together as adults, we talk about old times and each of us has a memory that the other ones have forgotten but is brought back like a treasured jewel to gaze upon and feel all over again.
Did you know that Family portraits actually boost children’s self esteem? There’s a great article HERE about it-here’s an excerpt:
David Krauss, a licensed psychologist from Cleveland, Ohio says, “I think it is really important to show a family as a family unit. It is so helpful for children to see themselves as a valued and important part of that family unit. A photographer’s job is to create and make the image look like a safe holding space for kids where they are safe and protected. Kids get it on a really simple level.”
My home is decorated with framed and mounted photos of my family. When families hire me to create their portraits, it is my intent for the final piece to be wall art in their home.
In this day and age we have the technology to share our portraits digitally, but there is nothing quite so impactful as a finished portrait taking its place on the wall of a house to make it a home. From studio session portraits to stunning outdoor compositions, every family’s style is unique and there are many choices that are available in planning the session.
Here are a few from over the years.
Have you put your family portrait session on your calendar yet?
